Houston artist Dario Robleto’s film Ancient Beacons Long for Notice is the third in his trilogy exploring the Golden Record–a collection of images, languages, music, and sounds launched into space in 1977 as a message of goodwill to any life forms that might encounter it. This hopeful gesture was carefully curated to present humanity’s “best face forward,” omitting any traces of war, injustice, famine, or environmental decay. Ancient Beacons examines the implications of that ethos, questioning our moral obligations to account for our actions, both good and bad. The Houston premiere of Robleto’s powerful film will be followed by a conversation with the artist and Aurora’s Peter Lucas.
